There are tons of online marketing options for small businesses. Some, like search engine optimization and social media, are free or low-cost and can be started immediately. Others, like paid advertising on Google or Facebook Ads, might be something you’d want to hire a pro for, or at least outsource. To grow your business, you’ll need to come up with a unique selling proposition (or USP). The way we view it, a USP is anything that differentiates you from competitors in an appealing and memorable way. If a competitor offers a similar product or service at a lower price, you’ll have to determine how else you can present yourself as more attractive. For example, you could expand your services so they include training or support that others don’t offer.

3) When Getting Started, Choose One Social Media Platform

There are literally hundreds of social media platforms that you can set up for business, but if you’re just getting started, choose one and stick with it. Of course, as your business grows and more customers are attracted to your brand, you can always add other platforms. But in most cases, focusing on one platform is better than spreading yourself too thin.

4) Connect with Other Businesses in the Field

One of the best ways to promote your business is by connecting with other businesses that offer related products and services. Instead of trying to do everything yourself, find a way to collaborate with companies like yours. You’ll attract new customers while also creating new revenue streams. Don’t worry about whether or not you can work together. Aim for opportunities that fit both of your brands and leave it at that.

5) Build a Following On Your Channel of Choice

When building a following, you have several different options. The two main categories of marketing channels are owned and earned. Owned media channels include blogs, websites, Facebook pages, and Twitter accounts. Earned media is everything else. The biggest advantage to using owned media is that it’s under your direct control. There’s no concern about whether you’ll get in front of a given audience on someone else’s platform.

6) Research Keywords and Create Content Around Them

If you’re familiar with digital marketing, then you’re likely well aware of some of its key terms. For example, if you’re targeting small businesses that want to develop a better social media presence, there are tons of related keywords that could be used for content creation. Check out keywords in Google Keyword Planner or even use tools like SEMrush and SpyFu, which are especially helpful if you have an idea of where your target audience is hanging out online already.

7) Use Videos as Part of Your Strategy

Video content is just as shareable as any other piece of social media, so it can be a great way to spread brand awareness. Using videos in your digital marketing strategy will help you increase engagement with both current and potential customers, as well as reach new audiences. With all these benefits, it’s no wonder why video is one of today’s most popular forms of social media marketing.

8) Promote On Other Websites and Through Offline Channels

Social media is one of the most powerful and cost-effective forms of digital marketing. It’s also a great place to identify influencers who will share your content with their followers. It’s not only free advertising, but it also increases your credibility. If you aren’t already active on social media, now is as good a time as any to start!

9) Make Use of Review Sites For Feedback On Products

Online review sites are a great way to get feedback on products you’re planning on selling. In addition, getting customer feedback can help you spot problems or issues with your product that you may not have otherwise known about. Ask questions, build relationships and set up reviews. If it’s easy for people to leave reviews, they will be more likely to do so and as a result, you will get more accurate feedback from potential customers.

10) Stay Regularly Up To Date With New Opportunities

As your company grows, it’s likely that new opportunities will pop up. To grow at a healthy rate, you’ll need to stay regularly up-to-date with what’s out there and how you can best take advantage of these new market conditions. The good news is that taking time out of each day for researching what’s new in business can pay off in more ways than one: not only does it keep you informed, but it also boosts your creativity.
